What CineDates is
CineDates aggregates public screening listings from London's independent and repertory cinemas and delivers them as a personal calendar feed. This policy covers the account, preferences, and sign-in data CineDates itself collects.
What we collect
- Account data: email address, and — if you sign in with Google — your name and Google account email as provided by Google Sign-In.
- Preferences: postcode/radius, cinema selections, and feed settings you choose in your account.
- Calendar feed access: a unique, unguessable feed URL used to authenticate calendar subscription requests (Apple/Google/Outlook Calendar polling your feed).
- Payment data: handled entirely by Stripe. CineDates does not store card numbers or full payment details.
Google Sign-In and Google Calendar
If you sign in with Google, CineDates receives your name and email address to create and identify your account — nothing else. If you choose to connect Google Calendar (a separate, opt-in feature), CineDates requests read-only access to your availability. We do not read event titles, descriptions, attendees, or locations. You can disconnect Google Calendar access at any time from your account settings or directly from your Google Account permissions page.
Separately, and only if you switch it on, CineDates can create its own secondary calendar — named “CineDates” — and keep a single suggested screening in it. This never touches your existing calendars, and nothing you have already written is read or changed.
Spreadsheet exports
CineDates can also produce a Google Sheets spreadsheet of the screenings matching your preferences. This does not use your Google account and asks you for no permission: the spreadsheet is created and held in our own Google Drive account, and is shared by link so that you can open it and make your own copy. We never access, read, or write to any file in your Google Drive, and no spreadsheet of yours is ever touched.
How your data is protected
All traffic to CineDates is encrypted in transit over HTTPS, and account data is held in an access-controlled database that is reachable only by CineDates servers — never browsed directly and never exposed to third parties. Credentials are held only on the server side, never in the browser, and are never logged. Access tokens we hold on your behalf can be revoked at any time from the Google Account permissions page linked above, and deleting your account removes the associated data.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data. We don't use third-party ad networks or ad trackers on CineDates. We don't share your account data with the cinemas or venues listed in the app.
Data retention and deletion
Account and preference data is retained while your account is active. If you disconnect Google Calendar, we delete the associated access token immediately. To delete your account entirely, contact us using the details below.
