Paul Steward, the editor of a scientific journal, wakes after a sleepless night convinced that his life has become an empty failure. Having decided to murder his wife, their children and then himself, he spends the day revisiting his past and indulging his long-suppressed desires before returning home. A bleak, confrontational psychological drama starring Hal Holbrook and Louise Fletcher, Jeff Kanew’s debut feature turns a midlife crisis into an unsettling portrait of despair, alienation and domestic violence.
